That was the concept behind the Regenstein Macaque Forest microsite, an online companion to Lincoln Park Zoo’s most innovative exhibit to date. Full screen background videos get visitors up close to the Japanese macaques, a primate species commonly called Snow Monkeys. The virtual visit continues with 360-degree video tours, fully immersing the visitor in the real-life macaque habitat. Infographics, games for kids, and an Instagram feed round out an interactive experience that is both engaging and educational. Read our blog post about the fun we had in creating this site.
The user experience was designed and developed to work seamlessly across mobile phones and tablets, along with desktop. And why not interact with the website while at the zoo? With Twitter and Instagram integration, a visitor can share their experience on the website by posting photos with a hashtag. Bios of the Snow Monkey troupe and of the zoo’s research scientists give visitors a behind-the-scenes access to the exhibit.
We designed and developed a ‘Build A Primate’ game which lets visitors mix and match features like tails and eyes from twelve different monkeys to create their own monkey species. Kids can also test their Snow Monkey IQ playing an interactive True/False quiz; and the fun continues offline with downloadable coloring pages.
The American Graphic Design Awards honor outstanding new work of all kinds and across all media. Just under 10,000 entries were submitted and a very highly selective 15 % are recognized.
